The homepage for U.S. Census Bureau is one of best and most comprehensive resources available. HUD's homepage directs a browser to many major data sources on housing as does the website for HUD User. HUD's Virginia homepage has all the lastest information on HUD activities in Virginia and provides a comprehensive list of links to housing and community development resources and services across the Commonwealth. Another valuable data source is the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
An excellent resource is the Housing Information Gateway, a bibliography that contains over 4,500 references and links to more than 300 housing-related organizations worldwide. The data can be searched by names, key words, and location. It also contains information on housing-related listservs and upcoming events. Access is free and simple. This resource was made possible by funding provided under the U.S. National and Community Service Trust Act.
For economic, housing, and demographic data at the local level in Virginia, the website for the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, located at the University of Virginia, provides information such as the number and type of building permits issued.
